About Me
I'm a designer, writer, teacher and singer. My two books are Crochet Insider's Passion for Fashion and Creating Crochet Fabric, released in December 2009 by Lark Books: more on that here. My designs have been published in Interweave Crochet, Inside Crochet, Knit Simple and Crochet Today, as well as in several pattern collection books. I enjoy writing here at Crochet Insider, and currently for Yarn Market News and Interweave Crochet. One of my particular interests is the history of crochet, a lamentably neglected field -- I hope to change that!
I started crocheting during the Age of Aquarius, that is, in the 1970s, and made some pretty things without really knowing what I was doing. Then I put down the hook for twenty-five years while I pursued a career as a singer. For ten years I was the solo singer of the Philip Glass Ensemble. If you google my name and add "soprano", you'll find some of the recordings I've made. My performing life has given me excitement, travel and much more to be thankful for. Now I teach singing at Wagner College in Staten Island, and privately in my home.
I live in Manhattan on the upper West side, across the street from the Museum of Natural History and a block from Central Park. The neighborhood has many chic boutiques where I can’t afford to shop, and where I see fabulous fashion, which often inspires my crochet. My one room studio apartment, where I also teach singing, is filled to the ceiling moldings with music and yarn.
I am seriously interested in hearing from people who would like to write articles for Crochet Insider. Contact me via the "Contact" button at left, thanks!
All best, Dora
