a career as a singer. That life has given me excitement, travel and much more to be thankful for, and now I make my living primarily as a voice teacher.  I started to crochet again in 2004 and attended a CGOA conference in Manchester, New Hampshire that summer.  There I met two of the grandes dames of needlework, Jean Leinhauser and Rita Weiss, who encouraged me to sell my designs and actually bought several items “off by back.”  SInce then, I’ve  had designs in  books by Sterling Publishing, DRG,  Lark’s “Fabulous Crocheted Ponchos,” in the magazines Crochet!,  Knit Simple, Cutting Edge, and Crochet Today.

I get great pleasure and stimulation from the creativity and challenge of this new pursuit. There’s so much to learn about the business and the craft,  and never enough time!  Becoming part of the community of “people of the yarn" (a charming expression I stole from Adina Klein) has given me wonderful new friends and colleagues.

I live in Manhattan on the upper West side, across the street from the Museum of Natural History and a block from Central Park. The neighborhood has many chic boutiques where I can’t afford to shop, and where I see fabulous fashion, including lots of gorgeous crochet.  My one room studio apartment, where I also teach singing, is filled to the ceiling moldings with music and yarn. If you have “only” your garage or a spare room for your stash, think of me and bless your good fortune.

Thanks for taking a look in the Insider, and I hope you find your visit interesting and enjoyable!

All best, Dora
