This beautiful afghan was instigated by a sad event: our friend and design colleague Pam Gilette (www.knottygeneraton.com) was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. We all followed her online journal, where she wrote with great courage and eloquence about her experiences.
Some buddies in the design community were moved to show their love and support by coming together to make this afghan of 24 squares, almost all of them featuring cables. Pam is a lover of crochet cables, and her favorite colors are also used in the project. Through the efforts of Amie Hirtes and Tammy Hildebrand, Knitpicks offered to donate yarn. Each designer made a square, some even made two, Tammy sewed them all together, and Amie created a beautiful pattern booklet.
Pam has been cuddling with the blanket for several months now. We are so happy that she is recovering beautifully and looks great! The afghan pattern is available for purchase, and all sales go directly to Pam and her family. It’s a gorgeous blanket and a wonderful opportunity to learn a variety of cable stitches. At the price of $4.99 for the pattern, it’s a a real steal! If you’d like to purchase it, here’s the link
