October 2012 Newsletter

Greetings and news from Dora!

NEW BOOK

NEW ONLINE COURSES

Are you all enjoying the first tinglings of fall?  Here in NYC it's definitely sweater weather, and my crochet garments are coming out of back bins for imminent use.

Here's my news:

1.  My latest book, The New Tunisian Crochet,  will be published in February 2013 by Interweave Press, scroll down to see the cover!

Interweave did a fantastic job with photograpy - notice the Moorish background?  I had asked for a reference to Tunisia in the book's look and they did it!  In addition to my own designs (including the sweater on the cover), there are gorgeous pieces by Vashti Braha, Doris Chan, Lily Chin, Lisa Daehlin, Andrea Gracierena, Margaret Hubert, and Charles Voth - a feast of talent!  And, the book includes directions for 30 Tunisian stitches, some of which you haven't seen before.

I researched Tunisian stitches in many antique crochet books, as well as modern ones from Britain, Japan and the US.  I learned that there has always been a lot more to Tunisian Crochet than bulky blankets. So, if you love Tunisian crochet, or want to explore it more deeply, check it out!  http://www.amazon.com/New-Tunisian-Crochet-Contemporary-Time-Honored/dp/1596685530/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1350155615&sr=1-2

2.  We are offering a NEW ONLINE CLASS AT CROCHET INSIDER:  Technical Editing for Crochet, beginning November 1.  It will be taught by Charles Voth, Editor par excellence, and myself. If you are an experienced crocheter, and math friendly, this is a career path well worth exploring -- good Tech Editors are always in demand! The course provides a firm foundation for all the skills you need, including knowledge of various pattern writing styles, math and sizing formulas, and much more.  Crochet Insider courses are in depth, information packed experiences allowing you to learn and study at your own pace.  Visit this link for more info.

Other courses are now offered on an individual basis, so if you're interested in any of these courses, please let me know by clicking on the link where it says SEND ME AN EMAIL.

3.  One more item to tell you all about:  an exciting venture to create a new Knitting and Crochet Heritage Museum, initiated by Karen Kendrick-Hands. As my readers know, I am firmly committed to studying crochet history, so this effort is close to my heart!  See this blog post for more info and links:  http://jimmybeanswool.blogspot.com/

As always, we welcome your comments and feedback!  Best, Dora
