INTRODUCING:
DORA'S ONE SKEIN WINNERS
with Trendsetter Yarns
www.trendsetteryarns.com
TRENDSETTER Dune Scarflette
TRENDSETTER Minestrone Beret
Ribbon Yarn, which can look knotty and undefined in regular crochet, is absolutely gorgeous in Tunisian Simple Stitch.  This ONE SKEIN WINNER uses less than a skein to make a classy case for eyeglasses.  Ever since I finished mine, I’ve finally been able to keep track of where my glasses are.

You will need a large size Tunisian hook for this project.  I used a 6.6 mm, slightly larger than a K, but a bit of difference in the size is fine.  If your gauge turns out slightly different than the one suggested, work to the measurements given rather than the gauge.

Trendsetter Segue (ribbon yarn)
100% Nylon - 100 grams/skein - +/- 120 yards per sk

Tunisian crochet hook size 15/6.6mm (slightly larger than a K).
Regular crochet hook size I-9/5.5mm

Gauge:  3 st and 3 rows = 1”

TUNISIAN SIMPLE STITCH
Make starting chain as you would in normal crochet

FIRST FORWARD PASS: Insert hook under back loop of 2nd chain, yo and pull through, keeping loop on the hook. *Insert hook under front loop of next chain, yo and pull through keeping loop on the hook. Repeat from * for length of chain, ending with the same number of stitches as the number of starting chains. (You may work under the “bump” at the back if you like. which reduces curl.)

RETURN PASS: Yo, draw through first loop on hook, *yo and draw through 2 loops, rep from * to end.

NEXT FORWARD PASS: Skip the first vertical bar. Pull the yarn firmly (for a clean edge), then *insert hook under next vertical bar, yo, draw through keeping loop on the hook. Rep from * across. To make a clean edge on the opposite side, on the last st of the row insert hook through the front vertical bar and also the strand behind it.

NOTE:  In this design, one ROW consists of a forward pass and a return pass.

Finished Measurements:  7” wide, 6” long.  If you like, go ahead and use the whole ball for this project, it will make the closure flap larger, extending further over the closed portion of the case.

Glasses Case

Ch 21
Work TSS even on 20 st for 18 rows, till work measures about 6”, or longer if you wish. End off.

FINISHING:  Steam gently and tug to correct any irregularities in rectangle.

With  Wrong Side facing, fold a 2” flap up from the bottom (see top photo at left) and pin at each side.  With this flap facing you, tie on at the bottom right corner.  Using regular crochet hook, work a single crochet edging into both the front and back pieces, to close up the sides of the case.

Continue working the single crochet edging past the closed part of the case and into the top flap. Stop when you reach the top, end off. It is not necessary to work around the corner and along the top edge, since there’s a nice edge there already.  Now tie on on at the left top corner and repeat this edging working from top to bottom on the left side. The reason we reverse direction is to have all the single crochet stitches facing in the same direction.
Now where did those glasses go again?  Oh, there they are, on the table in their nice new case!
Below:  Open case from the back.
Admit it!  The fuzzy, glistening and glamorous Trendsetter Dune is a yarn worth coveting.  Now here’s a ONE SKEIN WINNER that provides an excuse to give it a try.  Crochet is a great vehicle for this sensory overload yarn, and the unusual starry pattern exploits its full potential.  Check out the outstanding stitch diagram by Robyn Chachula below for the easiest way to follow the stitch pattern.

ONE SKEIN  Trendsetter Dune color #114 Copper Patina
41% Mohair - 29% Nylon - 30% Acrylic - 50 grams/80 yds

I-9/5.5 mm crochet hook OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE.

Gauge:  Measurement after completing 4 rows in pattern is 3 1/2” wide, 3 1/2 “ long.

Final measurement:  3 1/2" x 36"

Special Stitches:
Sideways Cluster (SCL):
These clusters are worked sideways, inserting hook from the side under the top loop of the stitch just completed.  The pattern uses two types of SCL:
[SCL(ch 2,dc)]  and [SCL (ch 4, tr)].

CL: tr2tog as follows, *wrap yarn around hook 2 times, insert hook in designated st, yo and draw up a loop, (yo and draw through 2 loops) two times (2 loops on hook), repeat from *(3 loops on hook), yo and draw through all 3 loops.

CL2tog: **  *wrap yarn around hook 2 times,  insert hook in designated st, yo and draw up a loop, (yo and draw through 2 loops) two times (2 loops on hook),   repeat from * (3 loops on hook) , skip designated number of st, rep from ** (5 loops on hook), yo and drawn through all 5 loops.
BUT AT THE BEGINNING OF A ROW CL2tog as follows:
Ch 4 (counts as 1 tr), *wrap yarn around hook 2 times, insert hook in designated st, yo and draw up a loop, yo and draw through 2 loops) two times*, (2 loops on hook), sk designated number of st, rep from * to * two times ((4 loops on hook) , yo and draw through all 4 loops.
Minestrone is a new Trendsetter yarn that's as delectable as its namesake.  Three distinctly different yarns are converted into a continuous strand through some kind of magic at the mill.  One skein is enough for this adorable beret, and even leaves some leftovers for dressing up another project.  My young friend Kayla is the model in these photos -- even cuter than the hat, don’t you think?

FINISHING
The Right Side of the hat is where most of the extra fluff accumulates, on the backs of stitches.  Weave in any ends on Wrong Side.

OPTIONAL:  Make a chain  about one yard long. Weave the chain into the last row of hat, over and under two-stitch groups.  Tighten the hat on your head with this chain cord, then make a bow to close.
I get a great kick out of sampling new yarns and finding out how they look best in crochet.  To add benefits for CI readers, I have expanded this New Yarns page to include ONE SKEIN WINNERS --  free patterns for projects you can make with featured yarns using only skein.  The projects are meant to be easy, fun and truly useful.  I hope you’ll enjoy them!   Thanks to Trendsetter  for providing these great yarns for review.
